I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It’s that time of the year again. We are only a few weeks away from the 2020 season of “Pirate Football”. I hope everyone is looking forward to the upcoming season of “Pirate Night Lights.” We will be having a football meeting for grades 9-12 on Monday, August 3rd at Tioga High School Gym at 7:00 P.M. We will be handing out equipment at this meeting. If you cannot attend the meeting and want to play, get a hold of one of the coaches. Bring a buddy with to the meeting; strength is in numbers for the game of football. The first day of practice for grades 9-12 is Monday, August 10th at 8am. Junior High meeting will be Monday August 17th at 4:00pm at High School on Stage. You will get equipment and have a practice, so make sure you bring shorts, t-shirt and shoes. JH first football game is Monday, August 31st. Important!!!! Everyone must get a physical. NDHSAA says a physical must be done yearly in order to compete. In order to practice you must have a physical and a consent form signed in order to start practice. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL AUGUST TO SCHEDULE, BE PRO-ACTIVE AND GET THIS DONE BEFORE THE FIRST WEEK OF PRACTICE. Sports Physical: Monday August 3rd from 5-6:30. For the sports physical clinic you can call 701-664-3368 and choose option 1 to schedule, you do not need an appointment, but it is encouraged. The cost is $25 and paperwork must be completed prior to arrival with parents signatures, there are TWO places signatures are needed. Also, if anyone is having any symptoms or not feeling well they should not attend. We will be taking temperatures and doing a symptom questionnaire on everyone attending. As we plan and prepare to open the 2020-2021 school year, we are excited to get our students back to doing some of the things they love to do! The NDHSAA has announced their plans to resume activities as well. For Tioga High School students, football practice will begin August 10th with the Junior High team starting their practice on August 17th. High school volleyball practice will begin August 17th with Junior High starting right around August 20th. Look for details from coaches specific to each sport soon. Sports physicals are required for all athletes prior to starting practice and Participation fees (activity tickets - $25) must be paid for all students involved in athletics, music, speech, and drama. You may have heard that the NDHSAA has allowed for the use of "Form B" to be used in response to COVID, however Tioga Public School policy will remain the same requiring all athletes to have a yearly sports physical. Health and safety needs should not be outdated and current medical and concussion information is valuable for all students. Athletes must have 9 practices prior to competition so scheduling those physicals prior to the first day of practice is beneficial. Physical forms are available at https://ndhsaa.com/files/NDHSAA_Physical_Form.pdf If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mr. Odegaard.

On Tuesday, July 14, Governor Burgum announced that local control, along with working with our local health unit, are criteria that will be used in deciding how we'll educate our students. Of course, this information can change at any time, depending on COVID. We will start working on a formal plan during the week of July 20. We will start with a short survey asking some very basic questions and asking if you would like to assist in this planning process in some way, if you plan to send your kids to the buildings, and other procedures depending on guidance for our area.. After very limited conversation, it is apparent that we want our kids in school in some way, shape, or form. HOW we are going to do that has not been determined yet. We know you are anxious, and August 20 is right around the corner. We will have more information soon! Thanks for your support and patience. Have a good weekend.

Last March, Governor Burgum closed schools for in-person instruction due to concerns about COVID-19. He directed schools to serve their students via distance learning “until further notice”. Educators have been in frequent contact with the ND Department of Public Instruction(DPI) and the Governor’s Office trying to find out what schools will be allowed to do in August. • At this time, we do not know if students will be allowed to return. • If students are allowed to return, will class-size caps and social distancing guidelines be in place? • If so, will that force us to limit the number of students who can attend school each day? • Will schools still have the authority to offer distance learning classes to our students who have been identified as high risk by a medical-professional? It is our hope that the Guidelines we need to follow will be released by mid-July; however, at an online meeting that was held today, DPI stated schools may not have guidance until the end of July. While the principals and I have been discussing potential scenarios, we need to wait until those guidelines are released. We will share the educational plan for this fall as soon as we know what our options are. We know how difficult this uncertainty is for many of you. It is frustrating for us, too! Rest assured that as soon as we have guidance from the state, we will communicate our plan. If you have specific questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Carolyn Eide, Superintendent, at (701) 664-2333. Thank you for your understanding-I'm afraid it is a new era.

With great disappointment, Prom and the Awards Banquet for 19-20 are CANCELLED. With restrictions still in place as of June 15 and planning for very difficult schedule purposes, it is in our best interest to make the hard call. Students - we are very sorry! This is not the outcome we want either. Awards for graduates will be gathered and delivered. Underclassman awards will be collected for a fall delivery.
